OptinMonster makes it easy to control where and how your campaign appears to visitors with Display Rules. Each page can have different types of campaigns, with different content and exclusive offers.
In this article, you’ll learn how to use Display Rules to customize when your OptinMonster campaign will appear.
Before You Start
Here are some things to know before you begin:
- Display Rules refer to the feature within OptinMonster that allows you to control where, when and for whom a campaign can appear. Display Rules are found in the campaign builder.
- A Rule contains a condition that allows or prevents a campaign from appearing.
- A Ruleset is a group of Rules. You can create multiple Rulesets with completely different Rules, if desired. Within each Ruleset, you can combine Rules using OR as well as AND operators to create both simple and complex Rulesets.
- Some Rules mentioned in this article are available with a specific subscription plan or to specific campaign types.

Ruleset Logic
Within each Ruleset, you can combine both OR rules as well as AND rules to create complex logic for your situation.
In general, sets of exclusionary rules, like ‘does not contain’, should be added as AND conditions while sets of inclusionary rules, like ‘exactly matches’, should be added as OR conditions.
When evaluating the ruleset, every AND condition will need to true while only one condition in each OR condition set will need to be true.

Troubleshooting
I’ve set my campaign to NOT show on specific URL paths but it continues to appear where it should not.
Be sure you’re adding any exclusionary rules (e.g. “is not”, “does not contain”, “does not exactly match” etc) as AND conditions.
